Sandals Grande St. Lucian Review: Before You Book

Most couples searching for a Sandals honeymoon end up at Sandals Grande St. Lucian eventually. After looking at the options, comparing the room categories, and talking through the logistics, they tend to land here. That is not a coincidence. I have sent a lot of honeymooners to St. Lucia, and the feedback from guests who stay at Grande St. Lucian is consistently the most enthusiastic I receive. People come home raving about the setting, the service, and the food in a way that goes beyond polite post-trip politeness.
That said, there are things worth knowing before you book, including details that can genuinely affect whether you get the right room, make the most of the dining, and understand what to expect on arrival day. This is what I would tell you over coffee if you called me to talk through it.
What Makes This Resort Different
Sandals Grande St. Lucian sits on a narrow peninsula in Gros Islet at the northern end of St. Lucia. The position is unusual and it works entirely in the resort's favor. You have the Caribbean Sea on one side and Rodney Bay on the other, which means almost every room has a water view. Look toward the south on a clear day and you can see the Piton mountains in the distance. That view alone sets the tone.
The resort is the largest Sandals property on the island and has the most dining options of the three St. Lucia resorts. With exchange dining privileges at Sandals Halcyon Beach and Sandals Regency La Toc, you technically have access to restaurants across all three properties. That matters for a longer stay because dining variety is one of the first things couples notice after a few days at an all inclusive.
Getting There: What Nobody Mentions Until You Ask
The one detail that surprises nearly every couple I send to Grande St. Lucian is the transfer from the airport. Hewanorra International Airport sits at the southern tip of the island. The resort is at the northern tip. The transfer takes approximately 90 minutes on a two lane road that winds through mountain terrain. If anyone in your party has motion sickness, take medication before you board the transfer vehicle. This is not an overstatement. I have had clients who felt genuinely unwell by the time they arrived and spent the first few hours of their honeymoon recovering. Plan ahead and it is a non issue.
The other option is a helicopter transfer, which takes roughly 15 minutes and gives you a stunning aerial view of the island. Sandals offers this service. It costs more, but if motion sickness is a real concern or if you simply want to start the trip without the long drive, it is worth the upgrade.
Room Categories: What You Need to Know and What Sells Out First
Sandals Grande St. Lucian has approximately 20 room categories organized into three main tiers. All room bookings require a minimum three night stay. Like all Sandals resorts, pricing is quoted per person, per night based on double occupancy.
The entry level is the Luxury Level, which gives you a well appointed room with a king bed, smart TV, and refrigerator. Views vary by specific room, but the overall quality is solid for an entry point. Couples on a tighter budget who still want a Sandals honeymoon experience can have a genuinely wonderful stay at this tier.
Club Sandals adds the Club Lounge access, a fully stocked in room bar with premium liquors, and a dedicated concierge team. It is a meaningful step up if you value having people who proactively anticipate what you need rather than waiting to be asked. Most couples I work with who book Club level are glad they did.
Butler Level is the top tier across the board. Butler suites come with a personal butler team available around the clock. They handle restaurant reservations, set up romantic beach dinners, arrange excursions, coordinate anniversary surprises, and handle anything else you might want during your stay. Clients who book Butler level consistently tell me they felt like the resort was entirely theirs. Some of the Rondoval Suites at this tier have private plunge pools.
The rooms that sell out first are the Butler Suites and the overwater bungalows. If either of those is on your list, book early and do not assume availability will hold.
The Overwater Bungalows
There are nine overwater honeymoon butler bungalows at Sandals Grande St. Lucian, which puts them in very limited supply. These are among the most requested rooms in the entire Sandals portfolio.
Each bungalow has glass floor panels so you can watch fish moving through the water below you. The deck includes a hammock suspended directly over the water, an outdoor shower, snorkeling gear, lounge chairs, and a Tranquility Soaking Tub for two. Because these are Butler Level rooms, you also have a dedicated butler team throughout your stay, including a private luxury transfer on arrival.
Peak season rates for the overwater bungalows start at $2,269 per person, per night, based on current quoted pricing for early 2027, with a three night minimum. That is a meaningful investment, and I want to be direct about it because some couples see that number and recalibrate toward a Butler Suite on land instead. Both are exceptional. If the overwater experience is something you have genuinely dreamed about, this is one of the best versions of it available in the Caribbean. If budget is the deciding factor, a Rondoval Butler Suite with a private pool gives you most of the luxury experience at a lower price point.
Dining: 12 Restaurants and How to Use Them
This is where Sandals Grande St. Lucian consistently outperforms. Twelve restaurants, seven bars, and access to the dining programs at the other two St. Lucia properties means you are unlikely to repeat a dining experience even on a seven night stay.
Gordon's On The Pier is the signature overwater restaurant. Seafood, steaks, and a setting that is genuinely romantic. Book this one early, ideally through your butler if you have Butler service, because it fills up. If you are not in a butler room, make the reservation as soon as you check in.
Toscanini's is the Italian option and requires resort evening attire for dinner. Worth noting if you are packing light.
Bayside is more casual during the day but converts to a French Brasserie in the evening, which is a nice change of pace midweek.
Other options include Bombay for Indian cuisine, Kimonos for Japanese teppanyaki, the Soy Sushi Bar, Josephine's for crepes, and the Jerk Shack for a quick and excellent casual lunch. The Olde London Pub is exactly what it sounds like and is a fun spot for an afternoon drink.
One practical note on dining: for a trip of five nights or more, I always recommend clients use the exchange dining option at Regency La Toc at least once. The drive between properties is short, the scenery is worth it, and it feels like a genuine outing rather than just dinner.
The Honeymoon Package: What Is Actually Included
Sandals includes a complimentary honeymoon package for couples who are traveling within 12 months of their wedding date and register for it before arrival. That last part is important. You must register in advance and provide either your wedding invitation or your marriage certificate.
What you get: a bottle of chilled sparkling wine in your room on arrival, flower petals on the bed your first evening, a romantic turndown service, breakfast in bed on a morning of your choosing with fresh flowers, and a honeymoon dinner.
These touches are genuinely well executed at Grande St. Lucian. Clients frequently mention that the arrival setup made them feel like the resort actually knew who they were, which is not always the case at large all inclusives. The staff here seems to take the honeymoon designation seriously.
If you forget to register before you arrive, you lose the package. I have had this happen once and it was an avoidable disappointment. Build it into your pre trip checklist.
Current Deals Worth Knowing
Sandals runs a Stay More Save More promotion that can take up to $1,000 off depending on the length of stay and room category. For longer honeymoons, this is one of the more legitimate savings opportunities in the all inclusive space.
The 777 deal rotates weekly, offering 7% off seven specific rooms for seven days. If your dates are flexible, checking these deals before you finalize your booking can yield real savings on premium room categories.
Booking through a Sandals specialist also means access to current promotions that are not always visible on the public website and someone who can flag when rates shift. Price matching is also available in certain circumstances, so if you see a lower rate after booking, it is worth a conversation.
What to Pack and How to Prepare
St. Lucia in the December through April window is the most reliably sunny period, though the resort is genuinely enjoyable year round. The rainy season runs from June through November, and while showers are usually brief and the trade winds keep things cooler, you will want to factor that into your expectations if you are booking for summer.
Bring lighter layers for evening dining since the open air restaurants can feel breezy after sunset. Resort evening attire is required at some restaurants, so at minimum one dressier outfit per person is practical.
For the overwater bungalow guests specifically: the sunrise view from the deck is exceptional. Set an alarm at least once.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Sandals Grande St. Lucian the best resort for a honeymoon?
It is my top recommendation in the Sandals portfolio for honeymooners. The setting on the peninsula, the overwater bungalows, the dining variety, and the service quality all come together in a way that consistently produces the most positive feedback from my clients. That said, the right resort depends on your priorities. If you want a quieter, more intimate property, Sandals Halcyon Beach is worth a look. If you want the most dramatic landscape in the Caribbean, Sandals Regency La Toc has a different kind of beauty. Grande St. Lucian is the strongest all around choice.
How far in advance should we book the overwater bungalows?
As early as possible. Six to nine months out is not too early for peak travel dates. The nine bungalows go quickly and there is no waitlist system.
Do we need butler service to enjoy the resort?
No. Luxury and Club level rooms offer a genuine Sandals experience without it. Butler service amplifies everything and eliminates friction, but couples who book entry level rooms and engage with the resort actively have wonderful stays.
What is the transfer from the airport like?
About 90 minutes on mountain roads. It is scenic but winding. If motion sickness is a concern, take medication before you board. The helicopter option is available for approximately 15 minutes of flight time if you prefer to bypass the drive.
Does the free honeymoon package cover everything?
It covers the inclusions listed above: sparkling wine, flower petals, turndown service, breakfast in bed, and honeymoon dinner. It does not cover room upgrades, spa treatments, helicopter transfers, or excursions. Those are separate costs.
Can we use the restaurants at the other St. Lucia resorts?
Yes. Exchange dining privileges allow guests at Grande St. Lucian to dine at Sandals Halcyon Beach and Sandals Regency La Toc at no additional cost. Transportation between properties is also included. It is a nice way to add variety on a longer stay.
